About the role:
As our Senior Front End Developer we will rely on your expertise to shape and implement new solutions. We'll expect you to challenge, solve problems and be a real collaborator. Although you won't have any formal line management responsibility, we expect you to be a role model for the team; maintaining standards, driving innovation, and helping your product team deliver value to our users every release.
Working with some awesome tech - including TypeScript, React, Apollo and GraphQL - you'll be joining us as we grow the team and drive innovation. We will expect you to be an excellent collaborator, using your expertise to understand and solve user problems, challenge existing thinking and help others on the team do the same. We are a friendly and supportive team and sharing knowledge, through peer reviews and pairing, is the key to our success.
Key responsibilities:
- Be a technical expert and role model; demonstrate an in-depth understanding of programming concepts, current languages, frameworks and tools, and their appropriate usage for performance and maintainability
- Be a domain expert within your product squad, able to make insightful contributions to the product development process
- Work with a Tech Lead to analyse requirements and define technical approach and solutions
- Work as part of a Product engineering team to deliver new features and applications, and improve and fix existing software
- Support & help other engineers to improve their knowledge, skills and processes through pairing, mentoring and code reviews
- Understand business requirements and write clean, tested, maintainable code that meets acceptance criteria
- Continually aim to improve technical ability through a combination of pairing and self-directed learning
Skills/Experience
Essential
- ES6
- JavaScript Front End libraries - ideally React or AngularJS
- Semantic HTML5 with CSS and SCSS (or similar)
- Responsive web development ideally with Flexbox
- Cross-browser compatibility
- Developing for accessibility
- Version control (Git)
- Design collaboration tools – Figma, Zeplin or similar
- Agile practices (Scrum or Kanban)
Desirable
- TypeScript
- Apollo & GraphQL
- JavaScript testing frameworks (Cyprus & Jest)
- React Styled Components
- Building and using a shared component library
- Experience of developing Front End applications in a commercial environment
Qualifications
- Relevant professional experience or code school or degree in Computer Science or allied subject
